Informational update from ARHS: Weekly update, 10/9/2026

Posted Date: 10/09/26 (04:30 PM)

A high school soccer game takes place on a sunlit grass field bordered by tall trees. In the foreground, an Algonquin player wearing a maroon uniform with number 44 and an opposing player in a white uniform compete for a soccer ball suspended between them. Additional players in maroon and white uniforms are spread across the field, with teammates gathered along the sidelines and a goal visible in the background. Long shadows stretch across the grass in the late-afternoon sunlight. The Senior class participated in a fun, simple exercise this week, taking a class photo for the yearbook, the first milestone of many for the members of the Class of 2027. PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Dear ARHS families,

From time to time, I will use this space to highlight how our daily work connects directly to our strategic priorities, making clear how our programs, decisions, and events are aligned to the goals we created last year. One of those goals is to: "Expand all teaching staff members’ skills in meeting the needs of all students through the core principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), deepening the UDL practices of already-trained staff, and initiating training for those not yet trained."

This work has involved nearly every member of the staff, and the results can be seen, and will be seen more in the future, in many ways. Here are just a few ways that your child is likely experiencing school a little differently than previous ARHS students have experienced school:
  • Students have more than one way to demonstrate learning: instead of every student completing the same traditional test or essay, a teacher might offer options such as a written response, an oral presentation, or a multimedia project, with consistent learning goals and expectations.
  • Lessons include different ways to access information: students might encounter a concept through a teacher's explanation, a short video, a visual model, a written text, or a hands-on activity. Key information is presented in multiple ways to help students understand and engage with the material.
If you ask your child about some of the assignments they have completed this year or how their teachers have presented new material, you may hear examples of these practices in action. These are just a couple of ways that Universal Design for Learning is becoming a more intentional part of teaching and learning at ARHS.

I hope that this helps to make visible some of the ways our strategic plans are showing up in and around ARHS every day. I will do my best to share other strategic plans in action as the year progresses.

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan

SCHOOL NEWS

From Our Nurses:
No one should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Food insecurity—the lack of reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food—affects individuals and families right here in our community. When healthy groceries are out of reach, it impacts everything from physical health to mental well-being. This week, we are sharing these Supplemental Food Resources to ensure everyone in our neighborhood has the nourishing food they need to thrive.

From The Sachem:
We hope you’ll come out to support the publication of our 2026 and 2027 magazines by attending Sachem’s Haunted Coffeehouse. Please buy your tickets in advance and plan to arrive early for pictures, snacks, and the best seats!

January 5, 2027  February 2, 2027

January 12, 2027 February 9, 2027

January 26, 2027 February 23, 2027

Dates may change if we have weather or other issues. Changes will be communicated through email and/or school announcements.

Bus Fee:    The bus fee is $187.00 and covers 6 trips to and from Wachusett Mountain on AA Transportation Sport Coach Bus.   See Ms. Betar or your guidance counselor for a fee waiver. The bus fee is non-refundable unless a student from the waiting list takes your student’s spot.

Students/parents must pay for the bus using the on-line ARHS Unipay system. Once a student or their parent pays for the bus on-line through Unipay,  email the club advisor, Jane Betar (jbetar@nsboro.k12.ma.us) and she will give you the registration code so you can sign up at Wachusett.com/schoolgroups.

You MUST sign up using the Algonquin Registration Code.  Please DO NOT give away the registration code or sign up on the Wachusett website without first contacting Ms. Betar and paying for the bus.  If your student already has a season pass, that is okay; you can select that when registering with the Algonquin group.

Times:  Leave ARHS at 2:45 outside the gym in the back parking lot. Board the bus at Wachusett at 6:45 p.m. and return to ARHS between 7:30 - 8:00.

Storing Gear on Tuesdays:   Students can leave their gear in the Ski Team locker room in the morning before 8:00 a.m.  The locker room will be locked soon after that.  At the end of the day, students can change in locker rooms, grab their gear, and board the AA White Bus in the back parking lot near the gyms.

Sign Up Process Begins Monday, October 5th and goes until November 5th.  The club has room for 40 students, but it fills up quickly!  Every year we have a waiting list, so don’t wait to sign up.

  1. Go to Unipay and make the bus payment for ARHS Ski Club (not ski team)

  2. Contact Ms. Betar and she will share the Algonquin Program Registration Code once the bus fee is paid.

  3. Student or Parent will go to wachusett.com/schoolgroups and enter the code to access Algonquin’s program form.  Sign up and pay for the 6-week program in the Algonquin group only, not as an individual.  The Lift Badge costs $199.00.  Here is the Student Flyer for more information.

If a student already has a Season Pass, there will be a check box during ordering to select that they already purchased a pass.

There are 40 spots and the club fills up quickly.  On-line sign ups begin October 5th, so pay for the bus using Unipay first, then contact Ms. Betar for the Algonquin Registration Code.  Again, PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THIS CODE.

  1. Permission Slips Due by December 15th:  Once you have signed up with Unipay and Wachusett, print out a receipt, pick up a permission slip in H204 or ask Ms. Betar for one.  Read it, sign it, and return it to Ms. Betar by December 18th, 2026.
