PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Hello ARHS Families,

I am writing to let you know that on Monday we will be conducting a school safety drill to practice our readiness to implement the ALICE protocol.

On that day, students will be notified over the PA system that we are participating in a drill. As part of the exercise, students will be given information about a simulated threatening situation occurring in a specific part of the building. Depending on their location at the time of the announcement (classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, etc.), students will independently determine whether it is more appropriate to evacuate or to lockdown/barricade.

Students who evacuate will exit through the nearest available door and proceed outside. For most students, this portion of the drill will feel similar to a fire drill. Students who choose to lockdown and barricade will go to the nearest classroom and discuss how they might secure the room. For those students, this portion of the drill will feel similar to lockdown drills we have conducted in the past. Once the drill is complete, students will return to their schedule and resume their day.

Members of the Northborough Police Department will be present throughout the drill to help guide students and provide feedback on our procedures.

The ALICE program is one of several strategies we use to help maintain a safe school environment. While there is no single strategy that can eliminate the threat of school violence, I strongly believe that communication remains one of the most important tools we have, especially when someone in our community has a concern about student safety. To that end, I want to make sure that you and your child are aware of Say Something, an anonymous reporting tool that allows users to submit concerns related to student safety. To submit a tip, click here.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan
