alt_textStaff from partner agencies in Northborough and Southborough visited our school this week to promote Healthy Teen Relationships Awareness Month. During lunch, students were invited to engage with a variety of activities designed to encourage reflection on the qualities of a healthy relationship. Pictured here are Emily Brideau from Southborough Youth and Family Services, and Caitlin Mitchell and Liz Nolan from the Northborough Department of Health and Human Services, who staffed the table and spoke with students on the topic. PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Dear ARHS families,

From time to time, I will use this space to highlight how our daily work connects directly to our strategic priorities, making clear how our programs, decisions, and events are aligned to the goals we created last year. One of those goals is to:
“Enhance students' awareness of diverse careers and create opportunities for them to experience these careers firsthand in workplace settings, with the support and collaboration of community and industry partners.”

Led by Career Development Coordinator Michelle Kaelin, students’ career development is a key part of our district’s goal to ‘empower learners’. Here are a few examples of how that’s happening:
  • Career-Connected Learning in Classes: To broaden awareness of different pathways and provide meaningful firsthand experiences, Michelle Kaelin has expanded work-based learning opportunities and established partnerships with professionals in industries around the area. We are also bringing experts directly into classrooms. This includes partnering with classroom teachers to bring industry experts into learning spaces so students can hear from them directly. For example, Mr. Czarnecki’s Environmental Humanities class welcomed architects, environmental consultants, and scientists to provide feedback on student projects. They helped solve design problems, offered thoughtful suggestions and resources, and shared insights into their career journeys. Career-connected learning helps ground academic content in real-world application and often increases student engagement.
  • Career Exploration Events: Next month, thirty juniors and seniors will attend a Career Expo field trip highlighting seven industries. This annual event brings together six area high schools, the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce, and a strong network of industry professionals. In April, students in grades 10–12 will have the option to attend a construction and trades expo featuring hands-on demonstrations and information about high-demand career pathways. And in June, we will host a career awareness event for juniors, connecting them with professionals in fields aligned to their interests.
  • Internships: Our most significant work-based learning initiative is the internship program for juniors and seniors, launched in summer 2024 with four students. This school year, twenty-five students will complete at least 75 hours in a field of interest, strengthening professional skills and building meaningful connections. Students are exploring careers in education, real estate, law enforcement, marketing, and more.
I hope that this helps to make visible some of the ways our strategic plans are showing up in and around ARHS everyday. Please contact Ms. Kaelin at mkaelin@nsboro.k12.ma.us with questions about any of our career development programs above.

Have a great vacation week!

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan

From our Nurses:
We are officially in the thick of a flu season that isn’t just knocking on the doors of schools across the country; it’s practically kicking them down. As of the last week of December 2025, the CDC estimates that at least 7.5 million people have already fallen ill, resulting in 81,000 hospitalizations and 3,100 deaths.  Please review this  FLU INFORMATION, as prevention and early intervention can really help reduce the rates of influenza-like illnesses in our schools.
