PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Dear ARHS families,

Although our official reopening of school isn't until next week, we saw signals this week that the 2025-2026 school year is upon us, with some staff returning to set their classrooms up, our Fall student-athletes beginning their seasons, and our Peer Mentors getting organized for Freshman Orientation. The building and campus were more lively than they've been in some time!

I do my best to keep you apprised of the key information you need to support your child, but I also recognize that parents receive an abundance of school and other communications. So, I typically communicate with families each Friday afternoon, providing key updates and school-related information about the following week and the weeks after that. Sometimes, I send as-needed communications during the week, when I need to. Also, it's important to note that Assistant Principal Brown sends out a weekly email to students, "The Week Ahead: Student Edition," which has all of the information your child needs to be informed and prepared for each week. You are welcome to see that update here

If you have a question or concern that could use the assistance of an administrator throughout the year, please contact the administrator assigned to your grade:
  • Grades 9 and 11: Mr. Matt Gitkind, mgitkind@nsboro.k12.ma.us
  • Grade 10: Mr. Andrew McGowan, amcgowan@nsboro.k12.ma.us
  • Grade 12: Mrs. Janet Brown, jbrown@nsboro.k12.ma.us
Worth noting: this year, our faculty will be working together to reduce the distraction that cell phones can create in classrooms by uniformly requiring students to place their phones in caddies or bins at the front of the room at the start of each class. Many, many teachers already use this best practice with success, and the research is clear that limiting access to phones during class supports both mental health and focus. I am writing to enlist your support by forecasting this change for your child, emphasizing that it is designed to improve their ability to engage fully in their learning.

Also, please note the following crucial dates and monitor your email as the dates approach for more details:
  • Open House is September 16, 2025, 6:00-8:30 pm
  • Parent Teacher Conference Night is October 9, 2025, 6:00-8:30 pm
I hope that you enjoy the final days of summer. We look forward to seeing our students next week!

Sincerely,
Sean Bevan
Principal, ARHS

Senior Lydia Njitoh discusses her summer internship placement as part of the Summer Internship Showcase in July. Lydia was one of 23 rising seniors who completed a 4-week, 75-hour internship program across 15 local organizations and businesses, including Main Street Bank, Artemis Veterinary, New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, Component Sources International, and more. Students explored career fields such as marketing, finance, health care, horticulture, conservation, and manufacturing. Beyond building technical knowledge, students honed workplace readiness skills—professionalism, communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—through hands-on experience and weekly reflection journals. CELEBRATIONS

National Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 to 10/15)

Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. Beginning in 1968, Hispanic Heritage Month was originally observed as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson, but it was later extended to a month during President Ronald Reagan’s term in 1988.
Since then, the month has been celebrated nationwide through festivals, art shows, conferences, community gatherings, and much more. The month also celebrates the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15th, Mexico on September 16th, and Chile on September 18th.

Constitution Day (9/17)

On September 17, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution, along with the Bill of Rights and other amendments, defines our government and guarantees our rights. In December 2004 a federal law was enacted that designates September 17 as "Constitution Day and Citizenship Day" to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution. Each year, on September 17, Districts across Massachusetts celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.
